CSF Discipleship Bands

What are Bands?

One of our main goals at CSF is to help students grow in their personal relationship with God, and to develop a kind of life that is like the one Jesus lived. Bands are just one of the many ways we can make this happen around here. Bands are an intentional small group of three to five men or women who meet consistently to talk about the things of the heart, the deeper things in life, and how God is working in our hearts.

The concept of Bands goes back to the 18th century (well formally. I’m sure it actually dates way back) when John Wesley adapted an idea to have small group meetings focused on reading together, praying together and sharing together. Wesley really had an emphasis on not only being in a close relationship with God, but in close relationship with one another. Beyond casual social interaction, bands want to create a deep fellowship that Christians share with each other and God. Wesley once said “there is no holiness but social holiness.” In a world focused on individualism, we see that the Christian life is not meant to be walked alone, but in deep friendship with one another and to God.

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another- and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

A discipleship band is neither a traditional small group nor atypical accountability group. The primary curriculum is the lives of its participants, joined together in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. They read together, pray together, and meet together.
